Research undertaken by ASA for the 2012 Automotive Environmental Scan indicates that shortages of skilled automotive labour are prevalent in all states to varying degrees. These shortages have largely arisen due to a number of factors including:
- A lack of growth in the overall supply of automotive labour over the last 10 years
- The ability for skilled automotive labour to work across a broader range of industries
- A large transfer of skilled automotive labour into the mining and resource sectors
