All personal information collected by Auto Skills Australia Ltd. (ASA) is protected by the Commonwealth Privacy Act 1988.  Information on the Privacy Act 1988 can be found on the Australian Privacy Commissioner’s web site – www.privacy.gov.au.

For all personal information kept on record, ASA will take all reasonable steps to:

  • Ensure that the information is accurate, complete and up-to-date;
  • Protect the information from misuse, loss or unauthorised access or disclosure; and
  • Provide individuals with access to their own personal information kept by the organisation.

Collection and use of information

ASA is the body responsible for the development and maintenance of nationally accredited automotive training qualifications in Australia.  ASA is directly funded by the Australian Government and has a key focus on developing the skills capacity in the automotive industry.  ASA works with industry bodies, unions and enterprises to ensure that workforce development plans equip automotive businesses with the skills needed for today and for the future.

ASA is a limited company and is led by a Board of Directors who have a deep understanding of the skill needs of the industry while providing a critical focus on the corporate governance needs of the business.

ASA collects the information necessary to allow the organisation to provide services and maintain relationships with our clients and staff.  Common examples of why ASA collects and uses personal information includes to;

  • Comply with legislative, regulatory and/or funding requirements;
  • Conduct research about the automotive industry and training requirements;
  • Provide information about ASA services through mail outs;
  • Perform administrative operations, including accounting, payroll, risk management, record keeping, archiving, systems development and testing;
  • Manage a person’s rights and obligations in relation to external payment systems;
  • Conduct marketing or customer satisfaction research;
  • Develop, establish and administer alliances and other arrangements with other organisations in relation to the promotion and use of our related products and services;
  • Develop and identify products and services that may interest clients and staff; and
  • Tell clients about products and services that we believe may be of interest to them.

ASA will record e-mail addresses only after direct receipt of a message. E-mail addresses will not be added to a mailing list, unless they have been provided in order to subscribe to ASA’s mailing list.

Where individuals subscribe to the ASA newsletter, their details are added to the ASA contact database.  The types of personal information ASA generally collects includes stakeholder names, organisations, position details, mailing and street addresses, telephone/fax and mobile numbers and email addresses.

Where an individual has chosen to send us a completed electronic form that includes their personal details, we collect personally identifiable information, such as name, address and e-mail address and other contact or request details.

Personal information collected by e-mail or electronic forms will be used only for the purpose for which it was provided and we will not disclose it without consent, except where authorised or required by law.

ASA also collects data to provide broad advice to the government and industry.  Data is combined and general statistics are generated.

As Auto Skills Australia Ltd. produces several publications, we will also collect data to monitor the use of these publications.

Disclosure of information to partners and advertisers

ASA may disclose necessary information to related companies and to any agents or contractors who provide services to the organisation.  In dealing with these agents or contractors, ASA ensures that the information provided is used for the express purpose for which it was disclosed.

Subject to what is permitted by law, the types of third parties ASA may disclose necessary and/or personal information to include:

  • ASA agents, contractors and external advisers whom we engage from time to time to carry out, or advise on, our functions and activities;
  • Other organisations with whom ASA has alliances or arrangements for the purpose of promoting our respective products and services;
  • External payment systems operators.

Clickstream data (browsing) and cookies

When monitoring the ASA web site, our service provider makes a record of visits and logs the following information:

  • the user’s server address
  • the user’s top level domain name (eg. .com, .gov. au, .uk etc.)
  • the date and time of the visit to the site
  • the pages accessed and documents downloaded
  • the previous site visited, and
  • the type of browser used.

This data is combined and statistics are generated. The data is stored for archive purposes and is not sold or in any way passed on to third parties.

Cookies

Cookies are small amounts of information that can be stored on your computer by a web site server. The Auto Skills Australia Ltd. web site does not use cookies.

Security of information

Our web environment, internal network and databases are protected from unauthorised access using current technologies.

Individuals should be aware that there are inherent risks associated with the transmission of information via the Internet. For those who do not wish to transmit specific information across the Internet, Auto Skills Australia Ltd. provides alternative ways of providing information. For example, subscription to our newsletter may be arranged by ringing our office on (03) 8610 2500 and providing details over the phone.

ASA takes all reasonable steps to ensure the security of the organisation’s systems.  Any information, which is held, is stored on secure servers that are protected in controlled facilities.  ASA maintains strict procedures and takes all reasonable care to prevent unauthorised access, modification and disclosure of personal information. ASA will not be held responsible for events arising from unauthorised access of stakeholders’ personal information.

Access to information

Individuals may request access to their own personal information that is held by ASA by writing to the Chief Executive Officer, Auto Skills Australia Ltd.  In certain circumstances, ASA may not be able to provide access to individual information including where:

  • This would have an unreasonable impact on the privacy of other individuals;
  • The information relates to legal proceedings with the individual;
  • The information would reveal a commercially sensitive decision-making process; or
  • ASA are prevented by law from disclosing the information, or providing access would prejudice certain investigations.
