Welcome to the Outdoor Power & Equipment Industry Advisory Committee page. This page forms one of several web pages dedicated to different parts of the ASA industry advisory structure.

This page is designed to provide advice to the committee members and stakeholders more broadly on the work of the committee and the anticipated work-plan for the future. It also provides access to the Training Package Continuous Improvement Plans, which are a central element in the work of ASA and its committees.

The committee and ASA welcome feedback from stakeholders and welcome inputs into the development of the national training system and national workforce development initiatives.

Feedback from members of industry to join the Sector Advisory Committees has been very positive and a full meeting of all Committee members is planned for August/September 2013. Applications for Committee positions are welcome from interested industry stakeholders. Your feedback and continued interest in joining the Committees is welcomed and applications for a position on the committee are welcomed from interested industry stakeholders.

Outdoor Power & Equipment Update – 02/05/2013

Sector Committee Meeting

Auto Skills Australia had a combined meeting with the Outdoor Power Equipment Association on the 1st of Feb 2013 at Honda MPE in Campbellfield. Out of this meeting a few issues arose that have been included into ASA’s continuous improvement plan and will be worked on this year.

  • Review the core units in AUR30712 to alleviate potential electrical licencing issues in some states
  • Investigate the Certificate IV options for the OPE industry
  • Can the light vehicle engine management unit cover the needs of OPE fuel injection systems or should a new unit be written?
  • Can battery powered equipment be covered in the existing unit AURPTR2002 Test and service outdoor electric power equipment?

ASA has begun to streamline AUR12 qualifications and units of competency. The aim is to produce units that are easier to use and understand, performance evidence, knowledge evidence and equipment requirements will also be updated. I will be contacting the OPE industry for assistance and input into the development of the streamlined units for AUR12 version 2.
