Welcome to the Auto Electrical Industry Advisory Committee page. This page forms one of several web pages dedicated to different parts of the ASA industry advisory structure.
This page is designed to provide advice to the committee members and stakeholders more broadly on the work of the committee and the anticipated work-plan for the future. It also provides access to the Training Package Continuous Improvement Plans, which are a central element in the work of ASA and its committees.
The committee and ASA welcome feedback from stakeholders and welcome inputs into the development of the national training system and national workforce development initiatives.
Feedback from members of industry to join the Sector Advisory Committees has been very positive and a full meeting of all Committee members is planned for September 2011. Applications for Committee positions has been temporarily limited until the Committees meet and make final decisions of the full requirements of each Committee. Your feedback and continued interest in joining the Committees is welcomed and notice of any additional places that may be available will be provided throughout the year.
Auto Electrical Update – December 5, 2011
ASA have commenced a review of the ‘Automotive Electrical Technology Qualifications’, and again our focus is to visit as many as possible associations, organisations, individuals and industry groups in order to obtain knowledge of industry and the knowledge and skills required for a person entering the industry, with the information gathered being embedded into the new qualifications. ASA have also put together a scoping statement for industry to look at and provide information and additional contacts that will give an accurate reflection of what the automotive electrician/mechanic and diagnostic technician qualifications will need to look like in the coming decade.
Click on the link to view the scoping statement to gain further information.
ASA have also been actively involved with the development of qualification and skill sets for the family of Hybrid, PIHV and BEV standards nationally. We recently attended a Standards Australia committee meeting relating to the development of standards for this family of Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) that will soon be seen on our roads next few years. We have now reached an agreement of the vocabulary and terms of reference for this family of electric vehicle’s and next year we will develop standards related to the operation and service that will be required for these vehicle’s.

Auto Electrical Update – October 19, 2011
ASA are currently reviewing the 9 Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) and Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV) Units of Competency after gathering feedback and comments from stakeholders. This is in preparation for the forthcoming Qualification Endorsement submission.
On the 13th of October ASA representative Jeff Heaney attended a Standards Australia meeting in Sydney. This meeting addressed the development of electric vehicle standards. One outcome of this meeting is that ASA is now a Standards Australia committee member involved in developing standards that relate to electric vehicles and their supporting infrastructure.
While in NSW, Jeff Heaney and Neil Hunichen visited the Hino Trucks Training Center in Caringbah. There they met with the Hino Technical Training Manager Sergio Bonvini to discuss Hino’s hybrid vehicle training strategies. Jeff and Neil were given a tour of the Hino training facility, which included being shown their new Hybrid 300 series of light trucks.
